Nursing process in a patient with hydrocephalus
Suková, Elishka ; Průšová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Nikodemová, Hana (referee)
The present bachelor thesis is devoted to the nursing process and education in a patient with hydrocephalus. The aim of the thesis was to determine to what extent the disease affects the patient's quality of life, focusing on the period before and after the insertion of a ventriculo-peritoneal shunt. Furthermore, how the patient felt during the hospitalization, whether he was satisfied with the attitude of the staff, whether he was properly educated before and after surgery or before discharge to home care. The theoretical part of the thesis is devoted to a detailed description of the disease, its causes in neonatal, childhood and adulthood, symptoms of patients of all ages and treatment options. The empirical part of the thesis is based on quantitative research investigation, analysis of the obtained data and comparison of the results of the thesis with similar works. The research method chosen was a quantitative survey using a non-standardized questionnaire. The questionnaire survey was carried out at the Neurosurgical Clinic of Motol University Hospital and the 2nd Medical Faculty of Charles University, after prior approval of the deputy for nursing care and with the consent of the management of the clinic. The results of the survey showed that 86.11% of the respondents reported an improvement...
Normal pressure hydrocephalus- Complex approach to diagnosis and treatment
Skalický, Petr ; Bradáč, Ondřej (advisor) ; Haninec, Pavel (referee) ; Keller, Jiří (referee)
Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) is an important part of the differential dia- gnosis of the causes of cognitive deficit, gait disorder and incontinence in elderly patients. This is especially true for idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH), to which this thesis is dominantly devoted. A number of factors contribute to the course of the disease, therefore a comprehensive approach evaluating multiple variables accompanying the disease, comorbid diseases or considered diseases in the differential diagnosis, as well as a comprehensive approach to therapy, which contains much more than just the im- plantation of a derivation system for the drainage of cerebrospinal fluid, can improve, not only, the quality of life of these patients. The mainstay of the dissertation thesis are two first-author articles. The first study deals with morphological parameters obtained during MRI examination and their ability to predict improvement in gait after shunt implantation in iNPH patients. We evaluated the predictive performance of score for evaulating disproportionately enlarged subarachnoid space hydrocephalus (DESH score), callosal angle and cingulate sulcus sign against the reference standard in the form of functional testing - lumbar infusion test (LIT) and external lumbar drainage (ELD). In the...
Life with Hydrocephalus diagnosis
PŠIKALOVÁ, Debora
This bachelor thesis deals with the life history of an individual diagnosed with hydrocephalus. It is written in the design of a descriptive case study. A partial goal of this bachelor thesis is to describe and subsequently analyze the educational history of an individual diagnosed with hydrocephalus, focusing on individual factors of the inclusive educational process. To collect the data, I used the information from the health card, attaching CT images to save the shunt and providing personal information to the individual, with obstructive hydrocephalus. In addition to collecting data from the health card, I used the technique of narrative conversation with parents. My sample study is focused on my person, given the very low incidence of this disease, without other associated diagnoses and without mental or physical disabilities. At the end of the case study, I evaluated the educational process, where I described my mother's opinion on the approach of teachers and also my view. We agreed on the opinions. Although my parents gave educators as much information as possible, some of them chose to ignore the fact and decided to consider me a simulant and downplay my health. Finally, I summarized my case study. All the information provided in the bachelor's thesis can be an additional basis for students of study fields focused on working with people with disabilities. At the same time, the bachelor's thesis can also serve as an aid for teachers who have an integrated child in their classes with obstructive hydrocephalus.
Evaluation of incidence and importance of specific organic and functional changes of central nervous system in patients with neurofibromatosis type 1
Glombová, Marie ; Komárek, Vladimír (advisor) ; Nevšímalová, Soňa (referee) ; Starý, Jan (referee)
The aim of the study was to evaluate the importance of brain MRI's findings, and modify the criteria for brain MR imaging in NF1 patients according to this data, to improve the quality of life with early detection of important NF1 complications. Description of the whole cohort, with emphasise to possible cause of high range of sporadic NF1 cases. Evaluation the possibility diagnosis or follow up of brain gliomas by plasmatic values of neuron specific enolase (NSE) and S100B protein. Subjects and methods: I analysed data from 285 NF1 children followed up on our department from 1990 to 2010 by the same examination battery. I evaluated the incidence of brain MRI findings, clinical development, age at gliomas manifestation and necessity of treatment. I also described the whole cohort and made statistic analysis of plasmatic values of NSE and S100B protein in NF1 patients, with and without brain gliomas. Results: OPGs were found in 77/285 (27 %) children and GOOPs in 29/285 (10.2 %) of NF1 children, of who 19 had OPG and GOOP together, so the total number of brain glioma was 87/285 (30.5 %). Totally, 43/87 (49.4 %), respectively 43/285 (15.1 %) children with brain glioma were treated, and 4/285 (1.4 %) of this children died. Obstructive hydrocephalus was found in 22/285 (7.7 %) patients and was caused...

Nursing care about children with hydrocephalus.
POLÁKOVÁ, Nikola
This bachelor thesis "nursing care for hydrocephalic children" deals with the specifics of nursing care and its difficulty. Hydrocephalus is an excessive accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid that causes the brain's ventricular system to expand. The formation of the hydrocephalus comes due to imbalance in cerebrospinal fluid production or hydrocephalus can cause obstruction in the natural circulation of cerebrospinal fluid. The illness can lead to increased intraocular pressure and progressive head growth. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part will explain the term hydrocephalus, causes of origin, diagnosis and treatment. It also mentions the complications of operative solutions and subsequent nursing care. The practical part of the bachelor thesis is processed as a qualitative survey using the technique of semi-structured interview and case history. The target of the bachelor thesis was to find out the specifics in nursing care in children with hydrocephalus. Based on the target of the bachelor thesis, two research questions were identified. First: "What are the specifics in nursing care by children with hydrocephalus?". The second definition of the research question is: "What are the most common problems for children with hydrocephalus?" By processing the research part of the thesis, it was found, that nursing care for children with hydrocephalus is very demanding, both psychologically and physically. Taking care of these children is also very time consuming. Nursing care also depends largely on well-established and functioning treatments. If the patient is properly compensated, they may not be dependent on the care of another person. The research shows, that nurses are well informed about this disease and care for these children spend the time. This bachelor thesis will be the basis for a presentation at a conference in Budějovice on Kazuistika.
